But for some, the immune system will veer off course or make a critical mistake. It may convince the body to attack itself, as in autoimmune disease, or mistake a harmless allergen – such as peanuts – for a foreign invader that must be stopped. It could produce cancerous cells that multiply at an uncontrollable rate or become confused and overreact to COVID-19.
Through cutting-edge science and global collaboration, Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health (BRI) is powering progress in science to predict, prevent, and reverse conditions and diseases that involve the immune system. By collaborating with physicians and clinicians around the world to develop leading-edge treatments and translate them to clinical therapies, BRI scientists are transforming our understanding of immune health, applying discoveries made in one disease to improve the health of all.

The First Tee of Greater Seattle
The First Tee of Greater Seattle’s mission is to positively impact the lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programs that promote character-development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf. The organization serves kids from all backgrounds, ages 6 – 18 years old, and primarily targets those who would not otherwise have access to the game of golf, including children from economically-disadvantaged backgrounds, girls, and kids of color.
