The Boeing Classic has announced that Michelle DeLancy has been promoted to the position of Tournament Director for the PGA TOUR Champions Tour event. DeLancy has served as the Interim Tournament Director since March 2009 and, as one of the first full-time employees hired by the tournament, has helped the event raise more than $2.9 million for local charities since its inception in 2005.
As the Tournament Director, DeLancy will be responsible for all areas of the tournament including player relations, sales, marketing, communications, operations and will manage the relationships with both the PGA Champions TOUR and beneficiary – Virginia Mason Medical Center.
DeLancy’s experience with the Boeing Classic from it’s beginning stages of development to now, one of the most successful and popular events on the Champions Tour, will be critical to the event’s continued success and future growth.
“Michelle has played a big part over the past five years in making the Boeing Classic one of the best events on the Champions Tour,” said Michael VanDerhoef, President of the Virginia Mason Foundation. “She has emerged as a very talented Tournament Director and we’re thrilled for Michelle and for the Boeing Classic.”
A graduate of Washington State University, DeLancy began her career as the Marketing & Events Specialist for Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason. She was then promoted to Marketing Manager and then Marketing Director for Virginia Mason Medical Center, where she created and managed marketing and branding opportunities for the medical center including sports marketing, community organizations, and corporate marketing opportunities. It was while working in this capacity that she became one of the early leaders in shaping the future of the Boeing Classic as the event’s beneficiary.
DeLancy will work closely with Tournament Chief Executive Larry Dickenson and other full-time staff including Director of Operations Joe Sirlin and Marketing Coordinator Kimberly Aigner.
